If the best way to predict the future it to invent it, what kind of future do we want to invent?

In Japanaese, mirai, a word for future, reads something like "not yet come."

The first character implies an indeterminism, very different than the "inevitable" futures we grew up believe would come from the inexorable march of time and progress in the US.

You can read it another way: MiRAI as Mixed Reality & Artificial Intelligence.

From Mobile to Environmental

Most devices talk to each other even now.

Devices will see the world to various degrees.

Devices will know where they sit in the world relative to each other and other digital landmarks.

From Estranged to Embodied

Neurodiversity of thinking and communicating with shapes and images.

From Graphic User Interface to Learned Semantic Interfaces

The road to LSI starts with today's heads-up, hands-free interaction models.

Although today's devices don't understand personal quirks and require "one size fits all" wake words and visual affordances, as devices understand more and more of human and environmental context, device ecosystems will learn user behvaior and visible affordances will diminish and "hide."

From Personal to Communal

In the near future, computers that don't automatically recognize and band together with other computers will seem antisocial, antiproductive, and antiquated.

From Data-Mined to Dignified
